Azoospermia means that no sperm cells are detected in the semen. It is an important cause of male infertility, but a diagnosis of azoospermia does not automatically mean that fatherhood is impossible.

🔹 Possible causes include: blockage of the reproductive tract, hormonal problems, testicular failure or impaired sperm production, genetic conditions, previous infections or surgery, and certain medications or testosterone/anabolic steroid use.

🔹 What can be done? The first step is a proper fertility assessment, usually including repeat semen analysis, hormonal tests and examination, with genetic testing or imaging where indicated. Depending on the cause, treatment may include correction of hormonal problems, surgery for selected blockages, or surgical sperm retrieval such as PESA/TESA/TESE or micro-TESE, followed by IVF/ICSI when appropriate.
