Climate Opinion, Energy Transition and Political Economy of Commodities, Southeast Asia and the Global South
Zhai Gen is a PhD Student and Fulbright Foreign Student Program scholar in Political Science at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB), with research interest in climate politics and public opinion on climate change, with a focus on energy transition and the political economy of commodities in Southeast Asia. His particular interest is the political and economic influence of energy firms on local climate politics.
He was previously the founding Assistant Director of Research at the Asia School of Business (ASB) and a public policy research at Khazanah Research Institute, involved in both research publications, articles, and advocacy work to the Malaysian government. He had previous research interest on food security, the socio-economic impact of technology and digital gig economy. He obtained his Masters in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry from the University of Oxford.Â
