We, Dwayne and Kristine Zeiset, are siblings originally from Akron, PA. Dwayne now lives in Ephrata, PA and works in receiving at PaulB Hardware. Kristine currently lives in Philadelphia, PA where she has taught Health and Physical Education and coached athletic teams at Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School for 6 years.
In 2014 and 2015 we did an east coast bike trip (click here for pictures and stories).
This year, we are doing a west coast trip! See how you can be part of EVERY MILE with us as we raise funds for a medical clinic in Haiti!
What, Where, When, and Why:
West Coast, here we come!
Though we have both visited the west coast at other points in our lives, we now have a special opportunity to explore and enjoy it on our bikes. We look forward to seeing the beauty of creation from the vantage point of our bicycles for roughly 3 weeks in July 2018.
Our trip will begin when we fly from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Seattle, Washington on July 13. We'll take a day to get our bikes re-assembled from the flight, make purchases for our ride, and explore Seattle a bit.
On July 15 we will drive to the northwestern-most point of WA-- Cape Flattery in the Neah Bay area-- to set off on our 1,600 mile route. We plan to average close to 80 miles/day as we maneuver through the scenic coastlines of Washington, Oregon, and California. By August 6, we anticipate finishing our ride in Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve -- the southwestern-most point of the CA shoreline -- a few miles south of San Diego.
We have chosen to complete this trip without a support vehicle. This means we will each be carrying roughly 40 pounds of gear which will include a tent, sleeping bags and sleeping pads, pillows, food, clothing, etc. We expect our sleeping accommodations to range from tenting, occasional hotels, staying with volunteer hosts, and being hosted by friends and family.
To stay connected and follow our journey, we encourage you to use this site as your resource. You can also follow us on our Facebook page.
We are grateful for the support we have already received as we've planned this trip. Thanks for your interest in our adventure, and as always we value your prayers as we cover many miles on the west coast roadways.
The future is full of hope and adventure. We're grateful to share some of our story with you.
Dwayne and Kristine
P.S.- We hope to meet new people, see beautiful scenery, and learn new things about the towns and cities along our journey. If you have some suggestions of sights to see, people to meet/spend a night with, or places to visit along our route, please let us know! Check out our Itinerary and Map for more details.
