The AI-assisted workflow generated multiple design alternatives, each presenting different architectural qualities and interpretations of the project brief. Rather than accepting the generated outputs directly, a critical evaluation process was conducted to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each proposal.
The first concept successfully established a relationship between architecture and the tropical environment. However, it focused primarily on visual appearance and lacked a strong emotional narrative. The spaces appeared generic and did not fully communicate the therapeutic purpose of the visitor centre.
The second concept introduced important therapeutic elements such as reflection pools, natural lighting, quiet spaces, and stronger connections to nature. This significantly improved the emotional quality of the project and created a more calming user experience. Nevertheless, the overall architectural language remained relatively conventional and did not clearly express a unique design identity.
The third concept achieved a more sophisticated architectural response by integrating Tadao Ando's design philosophy, including raw concrete, controlled daylight, water reflections, spatial sequencing, and a gradual transition from darkness to light. These elements successfully reinforced the project's objective of supporting emotional healing, contemplation, and inner peace.
Human judgment played a critical role throughout the process. Architectural decisions were not based solely on visual quality but also on spatial experience, functionality, emotional impact, and conceptual clarity. The final concept was selected because it provided the strongest balance between architectural expression, therapeutic intention, environmental integration, and user experience.
This stage demonstrated that AI can generate valuable design possibilities, but meaningful architectural outcomes require critical thinking, evaluation, and decision-making by the architect.
Concept 3 was selected as the final design direction because it most effectively expressed the vision of a therapeutic visitor centre and successfully translated the project's emotional and architectural objectives into a coherent spatial experience.
