Step 1

Power modes
With the printer on and the top cover closed, press and hold the Feed button for several seconds. The green status LED will blink several times in sequence. The explanation to the right (Action) shows what happens when you release the key after the start of a specified number of flashes and before the next sequence of flashes begins.
Flash Sequence
Configuration Status — Prints a detailed printer configuration status label. The label can be used to verify printing, assist the printer with computer communication setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and assist us with customer service communications.
Standard Auto Paper Calibration — The printer detects and sets the paper type and length, and adjusts the paper sensors for optimal performance with the paper installed. The printer will feed one to four labels.
Note: Users familiar with the Zebra EPL desktop printer use this feed mode to replace the automatic power-on calibration.
Serial Port Settings — Applies only to printers with serial interface ports.
To reset the communication parameters. Press and release the Feed button while the LED is rapidly flashing amber and green. For Automatic Baud Synchronization: Send the ^ XA ^ XZ script to the printer while the LED is rapidly flashing amber and green. When the printer and host are in sync, the LED turns solid green.
NOTE: Labels will not be printed during automatic baud synchronization.
Factory Defaults — Resets the printer to factory default settings and modes. See the configuration label for a list of the main configurations affected by this Power Mode option. Other settings are configured, displayed and controlled exclusively by programming and are also reset. The printer then performs a standard paper calibration.
Print Width Adjustment — Prints a succession of frames starting with the minimum print width and ending at the printer’s maximum print width in 4mm increments. Press the Feed button once when the printer has reached the desired maximum print width. Be aware that the printer driver and applications can override these settings.
Print Darkness Adjustment (Density) — Prints a succession of barcode simulation patterns starting at minimum darkness (print density / heat) and ending at maximum printer darkness in increments of four (4) using the ZPL darkness setting range values. Press the Feed button once the pattern is clear and legible. Do not continue to increase the darkness setting. Bar code line widths can be distorted, reducing readability. Be aware that the printer driver and applications can override these settings.
Manual Media Calibration — The printer runs extensive tests to detect and establish media type and length, then adjusts the media sensors for optimal performance with the media installed. Manual calibration is recommended whenever you use preprinted media, print on liner, or if the printer does not self-calibrate properly. A graphical profile of the media detection will be printed.
