Training
I have an MSc in psychodynamic psychotherapy with several hundred hours clinical experience.
I am an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work to the ethical standards of these bodies.
I have also completed additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Systemic Therapy.
About me
I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working with both individuals and couples from a comfortable consulting room in central Haywards Heath. I aim to offer a confidential and safe space for clients to bring whatever is challenging or troubling them.
Individuals
When working with individuals my approach is rooted in the belief that early life experiences and unconscious processes significantly influence present behaviours and emotional-wellbeing. Through a warm, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship I encourage clients to explore their inner thoughts and feelings with the aim of understanding and resolving underlying issues and emotional conflict. Through this relationship it can become possible to explore old and unhelpful ways of relating to oneself and others, moving towards something new.
Couples
I have completed a couple’s therapy training with Relate, and work with couples to address a range of challenges with the aim of improving communication and understanding, conflict resolution, emotional and physical intimacy, and growth as individuals and partners. I aim to help though providing a space to explore relationship dynamics and patterns, individual and shared relationship history, and personal issues and motivations in relating. This approach is intended to allow each partner to reflect on what they bring to the relationship, and to understand this from each other’s perspective. This allows each partner an opportunity for personal growth and improved understanding of the relationship dynamics, and the potential to make informed decisions about the future.
Initial steps
Starting therapy can be the first step towards responding to emotional distress, anxiety, depression, life-stage challenges, loss and bereavement. For couples this can be in response to numerous changes in the relationship over time, or specific events. People have previously sought help from me in relation to:
Feelings of hopelessness or despair
Feeling isolated, lonely, or depressed
Feeling anxious, afraid or tense
A sense of emotional numbness
Challenges in forming and maintaining healthy relationships
Issues around sex or sexuality
Challenges relating to ‘people pleasing’, or attempting to control others
Challenges in dealing with angry feelings
Gaining a fuller understanding of oneself
Issues relating to a partner, or family conflict
Feelings relating to loss, bereavement, separation, and divorce
Communication challenges
Trust issues in relationships
Part of the success of any therapy is a good therapeutic relationship between client and therapist, we would meet initially to allow you to get a sense of how I work and whether I am the right therapist for you. If we decide to go ahead, our sessions would be weekly for 50 minutes. I offer both short term solution-focused therapy, or longer term therapy depending on your requirements.
My consulting room is located in central Haywards Heath, a short walk from free car parking.
