Today I learned about different applications of a robot, as it can be used for entertainment, tools, and other everyday activities. I also got the opportunity to build a simple robot with legos and test out some commands like making it move forward, and make a 360 degree turn. Some pebbles I picked up from living with my roommate are that our friendship can grow now and in the future. Working collaboratively with others has given me pebbles that can grow valuable because I get an opportunity to see the point of view of not only myself but also others, thus there could possibly be a better understanding of new material learned.

Today during the robotics lab I worked on programming my lego robot to make a circle, a triangle, and a square. This lab was particularly interesting because I came across a challenge when trying to make the robot perform a triangle. Ultimately, I was able to fix the problem and move on, but I find it important that I learned something new through trial and error.

Linear motion is a constant motion in a straight line, while rotational motion is motion in a circle in an orbit. I have been having lots of fun during my time in COSMOS, I think it is a very good experience and I have made lots of great friends and learned new things. Additionally, I am enjoying the freedom that also comes with responsibility, and being able to make actions completely independently on my own without the influence of my parents. I am also really enjoying my cluster and the courses because I wanted to deepen my understanding of robotics since I am very involved and interested in it at my school. Biophysics is also very fascinating since most of the material I am learning in that class is new to me.

Some ethical concerns that could arise related to Weijing Yang’s presentation are whether the animal is suffering or not, because the human is not being tested. Additionally, the life of the rat is probably cut short due to damage in the brain and skull. Some people may argue.

People like Tesla get overly credited for innovations because other peoples’ inventions may be closely related to his, or it is just luck of the draw… the person who is mostly publicized for the innovation. There are many inventors of great things who didn't get the credit they deserved because more popular people overshadow their inventions. To me fame is not very important, as long I am sufficiently credited with something that I have found or discovered.

Base 2 number systems are primarily used with modern technology as it makes computation much easier. Furthermore, base 16 can be used to represent bigger numbers in terms of fewer digits, this is also known as hexadecimal.

Some things I am doing to keep myself healthy at COSMOS are walking a lot and getting sufficient sleep so that I am ready to learn the next day.

The Monte Carlo system is significantly diverse in terms of where it can be applied because it estimates the result of an uncertain circumstance. The Monte Carlo simulation can be applied in the DMG Mori to a mill or any other machines or tools, to tell its “life expectancy”. This is an uncertain circumstance because no one knows the exact amount of time a machine is in good shape until it goes faulty.

Most things tend to run on DC power because it is very consistent and it will do the job. Most technology uses DC power run by batteries. If something is plugged into the wall then it will convert AC power to DC power. I would recommend students to check out the balancing stick at the exploratorium because it closely relates to this cluster, as there is a computerized mechanism controlling whether the stick balances or not.

My method of dealing with frustration and failure is to calm down and take a moment to reflect on whether the way I'm acting is really necessary or not. After I have fully reminded myself that this is likely not a mature way to act, I am ready to work again and improve whatever I am doing to make it work.

Peer critiques have helped the design of our project because it allows other people to have their thoughts and opinions on what we can improve, so overall the project can be the best it can get to. I have learned that collaboration is very important because it helps me work with other people. Previously I would like doing things independently, but now I enjoy doing things with a partner. Additionally, there are many minds working on one project so more mistakes and other actions happening regarding the project can be caught.

With my final project in robotics I have faced some problems with the mechanism that pumps the sunscreen. At times one arm of the pump is higher than the other one. My partner and I were able to fix this problem by changing the motor speed on one of the motors in order for the two arms to move simultaneously. Additionally, with the two arms that pump the sunscreen, they would fold and not pump, we altered our design to have a rod go through the two arms in order for them to move concurrently. Most of our issues were with the pump itself, and some factors that contributed to us making these decisions were using our knowledge from the original EV3 robot that we created.

Considering the fact that I was able to learn a multitude of things and still have fun I would say that my on-task to off-task ratio in class is 50:50. I think that this is a good mix, because I was still able to get things done and have a great time. However, there were times that I would have maybe too much fun, but it didn't ever hold me back from learning to the best of my abilities in either class.
