Art for Diverse Populations: In this class we explored many ways to accommodate and be accessible in our teaching. In this course we used everyday materials. Every student and the way they learn is different than the next, it's my job to make learning more accessible.
Unsual Materials Project
I selected the dish sponge and cardboard because it is an affordable medium that most households have in their kitchen. This ensured that cost is not a barrier to creating art. They require very little downward pressure to leave a mark. Using a sponge is a good tool for creating rich textures while keeping the workspace clean. The surface area of the sponge made it much easier to grasp than a standard paintbrush. I chose this medium because I love to paint, but I tend to get hand cramps when I hold a brush for too long.
Clinical Experiences
The Regional Alternative School serves students from seventh to twelfth grade. Some of these students have behavioral challenges, learning disabilities, or other needs that require a more personalized, supportive, or specialized environment. Students take art to take a break from their everyday, and that's exactly what his classroom serves as. The environment allows students to express their opinions without judgment or criticism. While observing, students chose a problem that they care about or is important to them. Students choose a material that relates to that. They decided on a prompt and filled in the idea organizer. It organized what the students wanted to say and how they wanted the artwork to be seen by their audience.
Unit Plan!
In this unit, students will discover how everyday materials can communicate emotion and identity. This unit allows students to slow down the process and experience the materials while making their final portrait. Together, students discover how everyday materials can communicate emotion and identity.
University Galleries Workshop
We created Text-Based drawing inspired by Dianna Frid. We Used Felt, Acrylic Marker, and stencils. I picked a modified quote by Toni Morisson. It reads "If you want to fly, you have to give up the things that weigh you down." Since becoming an adult, having to explore the world on my own, this quote has been an anchor. It has helped me out in stressful situations and kept me going on bad days.
