Zambra

Zambra (from the Arabic word for "gathering") is an award winning collaboration of global artists from Catalonia, NYC, Tehran, Atlanta, and Andalusia. Zambra creates imaginative arrangements that interconnect flamenco, Romani, Persian Classical, Indian, Catalonian, and Jazz traditions. Through original compositions and traditional melodies, the quintet celebrates cultural connection, sisterhood, and the art of improvisation.

The five members of Zambra, Queralt Giralt Soler on cello, Ria Modak on guitar, Bahar Badiei on oud, Devon Gates on bass, Ángela Varo Moreno on violin, and all of them on vocals, have collaborated, toured, and been mentored by artists such as Joe Lovano, Linda May Han Oh, Ali Sethi, Paquito D'Rivera, Terri Lyne Carrington,Vijay Iyer, Danilo Pérez, Javier Limón, John Patitucci, and Brian Blade, among others and are in numerous awarded and Grammy Nominated projects. 

Their origin and connection is the result of the interconnected communities of Harvard University, New England Conservatory, Brown University, and Berklee College of Music, specifically its Global Jazz Institute and Jazz and Gender Institute.
