Fluid Film
is a lanolin-based rust inhibitor that’s thinner in consistency, allowing it to creep deep into cracks, seams, and tight spaces. It provides strong moisture displacement and rust prevention, making it especially useful for treating existing rust or hard-to-reach areas. However, it has a noticeable lanolin smell and typically requires reapplication every 6–12 months in tough climates.
VS.
Woolwax
is a lanolin-based formula that is much thicker and more resistant to wash-off from rain, snow, and road salt. It has little to no odor and is designed to last longer, often 12–18 months between applications, which makes it better for long-term vehicle undercoating. Its heavier consistency gives it superior durability, though it doesn’t penetrate into cracks as effectively as Fluid Film.

What is Fluid Film? How does it work?
Fluid Film is a lanolin-based (wool-wax) rust inhibitor and lubricant that protects metal surfaces from corrosion. It works by penetrating into cracks and seams, displacing moisture and oxygen while leaving behind a self-healing protective coating. Because it stays soft, it resists cracking and continues to provide long-term rust prevention on vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
Fluid Film Clear
Fluid Film Black
Fluid Film Clear (Amber) is recommended for newer cars that have little to no surface rust. Another ideal is if a customer requires a more budget friendly option, seeing as it is cheaper when compared to Fluid Film Black.
Fluid Film Black is recommended for cars that need a little more help with coverage from surface rust. Also, this type is best if you're really trying to give your car a newer look on the underside.
Example of my work after Months of Driving
(Fluid Film)
2021 Ram 1500 (Clear)
2011 Toyota Tacoma (Black)
So, even after months of driving there is minimal rust, and everything is covered and protected. This is the kind of maintenance you need before winter. The salt-water mixture is not going to help your investment at any state, new or old.
