Teaching

As a faculty member in School of Chemical Engineering, I am responsible in preparing, developing and lecturing core Chemical Engineering modules, such as Unit Operations, Process Control & Instrumentation, Final-Year Plant Design, etc. I also conduct tutorial classes and lab sessions to assist my students in understanding chemical engineering principles.

I have taught undergraduate level courses since 2005 focusing on process control and other computer oriented subjects. I have taught Process Dynamic and Control for 4 years and Advanced Process Control for 3 years. In addtion to that, I also taught Process Design subject for final year students for the past 6 years. In this course, I have applied a new teaching methodology called Outcome Based Education (OBE) since 2009 through which, Project Based Learning (PrBL) has been practiced. I also have accompanied my teaching with Aspen Plus software, an industrially acclaimed software, that is incorporated in the Design Project.

One of the innovative teaching that has been implemented is by introducing e-learning through Moodle and Edmodo in the courses that I teach. This teaching and learning approach has been very successful where most of the students become IT oriented immediately upon exposure to the e-learning and most of the time, the forum and discussion held in the Moodle and Edmodo have been quite successful.

In addition, the success of a process of teaching and learning depends on how a lecturer translated the theory into practice and easily understood by the students, therefore to achieve these goals, I was applying an OBE in varying methods of learning and teaching that makes the teaching and learning is more attractive and towards student oriented activity. 3 components of an effective teaching that have been in practice in this process are:

1. Maximizing the use of e-learning in teaching and learning.

2. Implementation of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) approach in teaching and learning.

3. Additional readings from journals, simulations and case studies especially from industrial point of views.
