Peer Mentors

Housing and Residential Life

Gonzaga University

Peer Mentors serve as advisors in First-Year Seminar courses for living-learning communities (LLCs) and act as role models for intellectual engagement and curiosity.

Attend classes with your students each week.

Complete readings and other weekly assignments in assigned fall First-Year Seminar and spring Reasoning course in preparation to learn and participate alongside students.

Host class collaboration hours in Coughlin Hall.

Make a strong effort to get to know the students in your assigned classes outside of the classroom and offer ongoing support related to academic advising and assistance.

Plan and host three programs per semester.

Collaborate with other Peer Mentors to plan programs on academic success, class-specific topics, Jesuit values, and more, and participate in off-campus field trips and retreats.

Peer Mentors are committed to lifelong learning, understand that challenge is a part of learning, and are interested in supporting the active and experiential learning of their peers.

This position supports the Jesuit and Housing and Residence Life missions, as well as the University Core Curriculum Year One theme and question: Understanding and Creating: How do we pursue knowledge and cultivate understanding?

Peer Mentor Benefits

Housing Waiver*

Peer Mentors are provided with a shared double room in Coughlin Hall and receive a housing waiver equivalent to the cost of half of the room each semester.

Housing Stipend*

Any Peer Mentor who elects not to live in Coughlin Hall will participate in Housing Selection and receive a discount on their bill equivalent to the Housing Waiver.

Hourly Payment

By logging an average of 10 hours every week, such as class collaboration hours and meetings, Peer Mentors will earn between $120 and $180 per week ($15 per hour).

Internship Hours

Students who are enrolled in Leadership Internship (LDRS 497) can use their Peer Mentor hours towards their internship requirement.

Coughlin Hall is home to four first-year living-learning communities (LLCs), including: Cura Personalis, Global Citizenship, Learns to Lead, and People For and With Others. Peer Mentors will be assigned a First-Year Seminar related to one of the four themes and only open to Coughlin residents.
