Research Summary

My research interests have focused on Artificial Intelligence , Networking Security, Datacenter Networking, Software Defined Networking, Virtual Cloud Networking, Protocol Measurement/Verification and Networked System Reliability and Security. Also, I have some experience in software engineering such as fuzzy testing, mutation testing, program analysis, model checking and symbolic execution.

During my PhD study, I have worked on rigorous network protocol engineering, with a focus on formally verifying and testing network protocols. This is an inter-disciplinary work between the area of networking and software testing. The goal of my Phd research is to apply the application of formal methods and language-based approaches to the area of networking to facilitate the reliability and performance of current networked system. I have also worked on networking and application security, with a focus on layer 4-7 networking protocol analysis, design, implementation, testing and verification (e.g., TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, HTTP/HTTPS, VPN, Load Balancing, CDN, DNS, Proxy, Application Firewall), with the goal of improving the reliability and security of global networked systems (e.g., Modern Internet, Internet of things and 5G).

Now I am mainly working on improving the performance and efficiency of large-scale distributed ML/AI training jobs (up to thousands of nodes) by innovating next-generation AI accelerators, collective communication and compiler technologies. Short Bio

I am currently a research scientist at Facebook, USA. I obtained a PhD degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA, under the supervision of Prof. Lisong Xu and Prof. Sebastian Elbaum, and have worked as a member of technical staff at VMware, USA on software-defined networking and network function virtualization. In addition, I have published numerous papers in prestigious conferences such as USENIX NSDI, IEEE INFOCOM, IEEE ICDCS, SIGSOFT ISSTA, IEEE GLOBECOM, IEEE ICC.
