Assess Conditions

Irrigation Infrastructure

In 2020, the IWMP assess the functionality and river impacts of 45 structures on the Yampa, Bear and Elk rivers.

View a March 2021 presentation on the results to the Basin Roundtable here.

The final report is available here.

River Health

The IWMP undertook several environmental assessments of river health, including:

A Remote Environmental Assessment to broadly characterize the ecological health of the river exploring variables such as flow, water quality, condition of riverside lands and the ability of the river to access its floodplain.

Fluvial Hazard Mapping of the Middle Yampa segment to better understand erosion concerns and flooding hazards.

Riparian Condition Scoring of the Middle Yampa segment to ground truth the results in the remote assessment.

Fishery

To understand the status and trends of the fishery in the Yampa River, a consultant is compiling and analyzing decades of fishery data from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The final report is integrated into the River Health Assessment, with additional details in Appendix C.

Water Supply Gaps

The IWMP is relying upon recent work completed by the Basin Roundtable and the Colorado Water Conservation Board to quantify gaps in water supply for municipal, industrial and irrigation users. The 2019 Technical Update to Colorado's Water Plan and the 2021 Update to the Basin Implementation Plan (currently in draft) both contain estimates of current and future water supply gaps.
