An introduction to operations research - how to use analytics to find the most efficient decision with available data. Focus is on quantitative modeling and formulation of optimization problems, which have been widely applied to management, engineering, and science. Model applications include machine learning, statistics, data science, sports analytics, supply chain, marketing, as well as other domains.Â
A rigorous introduction to game theory and mechanism design through the lens of operations research, focusing on how rational agents interact strategically under competition, cooperation, and asymmetric information. Students learn to analyze equilibrium behavior and design incentive-compatible mechanisms using mathematical modeling and optimization tools. Applications include auctions, market design, network congestion, supply chains, and energy systems.
Modeling and solution of integer programming problems. Students learn how and why algorithms for solving integer programs work, and how to develop good formulations of integer programming problems that can be solved most efficiently. Applications to a wide variety of real-world situations such as supply chains, production scheduling, and facility locations. Problems will be solved using state-of-the-art commercial software.
