Yuto Hasebe was born and raised in Japan. He received his M.F.A. from Nagoya Zokei University of Art and Design in 2010. His artistic practice explores handmade musical instruments and the physical properties of string sound. His work draws inspiration from natural materials and forms, as well as the relationship between humanity and the landscape. His early work, Tree Guitar, won the People's Choice Award for Most Unusual Instrument at the 2014 Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition at Georgia Tech in the United States.
