ECON RESEARCH EVENTS

This page aspires to be a one-stop directory of economics research events at SJTU accessible by all students. This page credits to RC Lim.

1. SEMINAR & NEWSLETTER

Antai's Department of Economics organizes a weekly seminar where faculty members from different institutions present their work. A newsletter is created to keep people informed about these seminars. The newsletter also shares about talks, conferences, research activities, and opportunities that are relevant to SJTU students.

2. BROWN BAG WORKSHOP

This internal workshop meets biweekly, during lunch time, for Antai's faculty, postdocs, and students to present their work or idea to others. We hope this will be a good opportunity to learn about what our colleagues are doing and interact with each other, as well as to get feedback on your research.

3. SPATIAL ECONOMICS READING GROUP

Spatial economics studies the allocation of resources and the location of economic activity in space, where locations are systematically linked to each other through trade, commuting, or migration flows. In this regard, international trade, economic geography, and regional and urban economics can all be considered spatial economics.

Recent research in spatial economics has developed a quantitative framework that is closely linked to observational data, allowing us to have quantitative evaluations of the general equilibrium effects of policies or economic events.

In this reading group, we read papers on spatial economics with a focus on today's quantitative spatial framework. It is open to all SJTU students as well as students from other universities in Shanghai. It meets weekly for 90 minutes at the Xuhui campus. Participants are expected to present at least once (per semester) or work as a "working buddy" for a presenter. 2-4 professors attend the reading group to help understand the papers.

4. MICRO THEORY READING GROUP

Microeconomic theory uses mathematical reasoning to study how individuals and firms behave. Some of its subfields are game theory, decision theory, contract theory, information economics, and general equilibrium. For those who are new to economics research, it resonates most with courses like Advanced Microeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics, and Game Theory.

The reading group is open to all SJTU students. It meets weekly for 90-minutes in the Xuhui campus. Participants are expected to present at least once (in a semester), after which each member gives a 1-2 minutes comment. 2-3 theory professors attend the reading group and help decide papers. This is great way to experience micro theory research and discover new ideas!
