Md Yusuf Sarwar Uddin

I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC). I joined UMKC in Fall 2019. My contact is: muddin at umkc dot edu

My research interests lie in the broader areas of systems and networking . I like to design, program, and build networked systems and formally analyze their operation and performance using sound theory and algorithmic tools (e.g., optimization, probabilistic modeling), especially when they operate under resource-constrained settings. My specific research focus is on distributed computing applied in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT), cyber-physical systems (CPS), mobile computing, and data-driven (Big Data)/AI systems.

I completed my PhD from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA  (under the supervision of Prof. Tarek Abdelzaher). Before joining UMKC, I have been working as a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of California Irvine. I worked with Professor  Nalini Venkatasubramanian at the Distributed Systems Middleware (DSM) research group.

I have been a faculty member at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) since 2004.

I obtained my Bachelor's and Masters both in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Earlier, I was a student of Chittagong College and Bangladesh Bank Colony High School (BBC High), Chittagong. I was born and raised in Chittagong, a beautiful seaside city in Bangladesh (aka, the port city).

I am a Fulbright Scholar and was a recipient of the International Fulbright Science and Technology Fellowship in 2007.
