Hi, welcome to my personal website. My name is Yushuo Pan, and I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Economics at Northeastern University. My research areas are antitrust, competition policy, and firm behavior. My dissertation is "Estimating the Demand for Differentiated Products and the Efficiency of the Production Line." It consists of three essays, each of which is described in the research section of this web page.
I like to work efficiently and challenge myself all the time. In my dissertation, I chose two of the most difficult demand estimation models for the first two chapters: BLP’s random coefficients logit model and PSB’s distance metric model. To apply the first model, I learned Python, which I used to write my own code for BLP’s demand estimation model. I tested my code with Professor Aviv Nevo’s data and results. In chapter three, I developed a new estimation technique, combining the discrete choice demand estimation and a new cost function utilizing the firms’ entire product line and product prices, to measure differences in firms’ productive efficiency in the automobile industry. In addition to my academic work, I have also founded a company, X-Press Yourself Education LLC, based in the US with a branch in China, and I created two websites for the company while I was writing my dissertation.
