I am Yunchuan Chen, an assistant professor of the practice and also the Japanese program coordinator at Duke University. Since July 2020, I have been serving as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Duke.Â
I received my Ph.D. in Japanese linguistics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. My advisor is Shin Fukuda.
My research interests are Japanese and Chinese linguistics, L2 acquisition of Japanese and Chinese, and experimental approaches in syntax and semantics research. I am also interested in minority languages spoken in Southwest China such as Tibetan, Nuosu Yi, Bai and Horpa.
