I have learned violin for 6 years.

I'm self-learning harmonica and piano.

Violin

Violin Level 2

I started learning violin in grade one in elementary school. After years' learning and practice with Prof. Caiyao Hu, I acquired this certificate of level 2 in violin when I was in grade three of elementary school. Level 2 is a beginning level for a violin player.

Violin Level 5

I stopped learning violin when I stepped into junior high because of heavy coursework. With Prof. Dandan Shen's guidance, I got this level 5 certificate in November, 2009. Level 5 is considered as a medium level.

Piano

I self-learned the piano during I'm attending in master's program in Santa Clara University. Firstly, I tried to play the piano because my roommate had one in our living room. It is a electrical piano. My roommate taught some simple knowledge about playing, such as functions on a piano, sound zones of keys and hand posture during playing. Sometimes, I practiced in undergraduate resident halls. School sets a upright piano in each building.

I started from simplified edition of Chinese national anthem March of the volunteers. Its rhythm and sound region is relevant easy for beginners. What's more, it's my national song which I'm very familiar. After weeks practice in quarters, I can complete the song with twice of standard time which is 46 seconds.

Though I can rarely used real pianos after my roommate brought away his piano with his moving out, I can practice the anthem on my iPad. Thanks to Apple for giving me the incredible app named GarageBand.

Harmonica

From a novel How the Steel Was Tempered by Russia writer Nikolai Alexeevich Ostrovsky, I knew this music instrument. It's very convenient due to its small volume. Although its size is only pocketable, its sound is not small I don't need to worry about not being heard during playing.

I haven't played my violin from I pausing in 2010. I bought this harmonica to practice the ability in reading music notation when I was junior student in undergraduate school. I wanted to take this opportunity to restart the violin from reading music notations. After all, the most difficult thing for playing the violin is to read notations quickly rather than the technique before the high levels.

It was not hard for me who had learned music before though it was years ago. I took two nights to handle the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
