Yukae Kanji is a kanji learning app made by Yukae Development ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have. If you have any question, write to us at yukaekanjisupport@gmail.com.
There are no accounts and no sign-in.
Your progress is stored on your own phone. We do not run servers that receive it, and we never sell personal data.
Photos you scan are read on your phone and are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Some third-party services built into the app - Google Play or the Apple App Store, Google AdMob and Unity - may collect information under their own policies, described below.
The app saves your progress, your lists and favourites, and your settings in the app's own storage on your phone. It also creates a random "account code", a short code that identifies this copy of the app. The account code is not linked to your name, email or any other personal detail, and it is never sent anywhere by the app on its own.
If you use the backup feature, the backup file is saved where you choose. It stays under your control and is never uploaded by us.
Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage from your phone's settings, deletes all of this information.
The app asks to use your camera or your photos only when you choose to scan Japanese text. The picture is read directly on your phone - with Google ML Kit's on-device text recognition on Android, and with Apple's built-in Vision text recognition on iPhone. The photo is not uploaded, not sent to us, and not kept by the app after the scan.
The app needs an internet connection unless you hold the Pass. To check that you are online, it briefly contacts a connection-check address run by Google or Apple. Nothing about you or your progress is sent; as with any website, those services see your IP address.
If you import a word list from a file, the file is read on your phone to create the list. It is not sent anywhere.
The app can send you reminders, for example when a reward is ready. These notifications are scheduled on your phone itself; no information is sent to a server to deliver them. You can turn them off at any time in your phone's settings.
The app shows ads provided by Google AdMob. Some appear on their own, for example between two screens, and others are optional ads you can choose to watch in exchange for an in-game reward. To show and measure ads, and to prevent fraud, Google may collect information such as your device's advertising ID, your IP address (which can indicate your approximate location), how you use the app and interact with ads, and technical information about the app's performance.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another region where consent is required, the app asks for your consent before any personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice later.
On iPhone, the app asks for your permission before it may use your device's advertising identifier, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. If you do not allow it, you still see ads, but they are not based on your activity in other apps.
On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your phone's settings (Settings > Google > Ads, or Settings > Privacy > Ads, depending on your phone). Learn how Google uses information from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Payments in the app are handled entirely by Google Play on Android and by the Apple App Store on iPhone. We never see or store your payment details. The store tells the app which item was bought so that it can be unlocked. The store's own privacy policy applies to these payments: policies.google.com/privacy for Google, and apple.com/legal/privacy for Apple.
The app connects to the store through Unity In-App Purchasing, a service of Unity. To deliver purchases and to analyse how they work, Unity may process information such as your purchase history, device and app identifiers, your approximate location, and technical information including crash logs and diagnostics. Unity's privacy policy, linked below, explains how it handles this information.
The app is built with the Unity engine. Unity may collect limited technical information about your device, such as its model, operating system and hardware, to help keep its engine compatible and working well. Unity's policy explains this: unity.com/legal/game-player-and-app-user-privacy-policy.
If you use "Contact Support" in the app, it opens your own email app with a message ready to send. The message already contains your account code, the app's version, your phone's model and the app's language, so that we can help you. You can see and delete any of this before you send it. We use emails you send only to answer you, and we delete them on request.
Yukae Kanji is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because your progress stays on your device, you control it directly. For anything you have sent us, such as support emails, you can ask us to access, correct or delete it by writing to yukaekanjisupport@gmail.com. For information collected by Google or Unity, please use the links above.
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
