The AIS class is traditionally taught with Microsoft Access. Students often face challenges with the software, especially its incompatibility with Apple computers and its detachment from real-world applications, I took the initiative to revamp the course. Transitioning to the more versatile and prevalent programming language, R, I also curated lab sessions to facilitate a smoother learning curve. The result was significant: not only did it alleviate the technological limitations, but it also saw students exploring automation possibilities with programming skills. This innovation was acknowledged when my AIS class was awarded The Provost’s Certificate of Distinction in Teaching, reserved for those in the top 10% teaching evaluation bracket at the University of Oklahoma.
