A Few Things I Love
I’m passionate about dancing, reading, and learning languages—each providing a unique way to express myself and connect with the world. I also enjoy physical activities such as gym workouts, climbing, and hiking, with a special love for traveling and exploring new places. One of my dreams is to travel around the world and experience as many cultures as possible.
Dance in Paris
Dancing has been my passion since childhood. I still remember how excited I was to perform in a show for Children’s Day when I was in primary school—that moment sparked my lifelong love for dance. Ever since, I haven’t been able to resist moving whenever there’s music.
Throughout my life, I’ve embraced every opportunity to dance. I led weekly social dance events every Friday evening, performed in opening ceremonies, and represented my institute in our college ballroom competition, where we won first place.
During my Ph.D. in Paris, I discovered gym-based dance like Zumba, and also immersed myself in Latin styles such as Salsa and Bachata. I’ve had the joy of dancing with some of the best Bachata artists, including Marco, Magda, and Daniel.
Now at Caltech, cardio dance classes every Tuesday and Friday are the highlights of my week. They are moments when I can fully focus, let go of stress, and simply enjoy the movement.
Dancing isn’t just a hobby—it’s an essential part of who I am. I’ll keep dancing for as long as I can move.
Books are nourishment for the mind, and reading is a journey of the imagination. Through books, we meet great minds, explore lives and careers we may never experience ourselves, and gain knowledge at little cost.
I'm drawn to many genres—romance, history, biography, psychology, economics, and investing. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I read over 100 books. They kept me company, lifted my spirits, and helped me stay positive through isolation.
As we say in Chinese, “书中自有黄金屋,书中自有颜如玉” — within books, there are houses of gold and beauties beyond compare. I believe in that deeply, and I will keep reading for the rest of my life.
My beloved French teachers and my classmates
I have a deep interest in learning new languages, which are keys to understanding different cultures, broadening perspectives, and connecting more meaningfully with people around the world. During my time in France, I began learning French after realizing how much I was missing in everyday conversations with my colleagues. I took classes each morning and practiced listening and speaking whenever possible. Over time, I gained the confidence to participate in meetings with my PI and present my research in French.
More recently, I’ve started learning Spanish and look forward to exploring another culture through its language. I find great fulfillment in the process of language learning and the new ways of thinking it brings.
Climbing is a passion I discovered with my friend after moving to Los Angeles. I especially enjoy rope climbing—it gives me a sense of security while challenging me to push beyond my limits and conquer what once felt impossible.
Climbing has taught me valuable life lessons: when facing difficulty, stay calm and think before acting; when you're tired, rest—but never give up. With patience and persistence, you’ll eventually reach your goal.
