Chrome Extension - YouTube Daily Limit
Precise Tracking: Automatically aggregates watch time across all YouTube tabs, including background play and audio-only sessions.
Dual Thresholds:
Warning Alert: An orange banner pops up with 3 alert sounds when you reach the first threshold.
Forced Lockdown: Videos are automatically paused and the screen is covered once the daily limit is exceeded.
Emergency Unlock: Provides a one-time, 1-minute emergency access per day to save your progress or close windows.
Password Protection: Critical settings (time limits, enable/disable toggle) are password-protected to prevent easy modification.
Quick Mute: A simple checkbox allows you to silence alert sounds instantly without needing a password.
Click the extension icon and switch to the "Monitoring Settings" tab.
Default Password: Leave the field blank and click "Verify Password" to enter the settings area.
Recommended First Step: Set a new password and click "Save."
Warning Time: Suggested at 80% of your total limit (e.g., set to 25 mins if your limit is 30 mins).
Limit Time: The maximum minutes allowed for YouTube per day.
Important: Click "Save Settings" and refresh your YouTube pages to apply changes.
Once the screen is locked, a green "1-Minute Emergency Unlock" button will appear (if not already used today).
You will have 60 seconds to wrap up; the screen will re-lock automatically once time expires.
Q: Why hasn't YouTube locked even though I changed the limit?
A: Any time you modify settings (limits or status), you must refresh (F5) your active YouTube tabs for the new protection script to take effect.
Q: Why does background play count toward my time?
A: To prevent bypassing the limit by minimizing windows or switching tabs. If a YouTube tab is producing audio, the system considers it "active."
Q: What if I forget my password?
A: Data is stored locally. If forgotten, go to chrome://extensions/, remove the extension, and reinstall it to reset. (Note: This will also reset today's recorded time.)
Q: Can I temporarily turn off the alert sound?
A: Yes. In the "Today's Usage" section of the popup, check the "Mute Alerts" box. No password is required for this action.
