The Road Up: Virtual Film Screening (Oct 5-7) and Interactive Discussion (Oct 8, 2pm). Join Workforce Matters and Funders Together to End Homelessness for a special pre-release screening of a new documentary film, The Road Up, that follows four participants in a Chicago job-training program (called Cara) as they seek to make the long journey to stable employment in good jobs, while navigating the challeges of poverty, addiction, homelessness, and trauma.
Upon registering, you will recieve special pass to stream the film for free on your own time during the private screening window (October 5th - 7th), and then join in for an interactive discussion with the filmmakers, Greg Jacobs and Jon Siskel, and Jesse Teverbaugh and Maria Kim of Cara on Thursday, October 8th at 2:00pm ET. This cross-network webinar from YTFG, Workforce Matters, Economic Opportunity Funders, Grantmakers for Thriving Youth, Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees, and Hispanics in Philanthropy explores approaches to virtual work-based learning and career technical education. Research Brief: Increasing numbers of disconnected young people due to COVID job loss. Research from the Pew Center reports that the percentage of disconnected young people ages 16-24 has jumped 8% as compared to this time last year. This increase is largely attributed to Coronavirus-related job loss. Click here to read the July 2020 research brief.
Interactive Tool: Visualizing Vulnerable Jobs. This interactive visualization tool from Brookings breaks down the number and dispersion of “vulnerable” jobs in each MSA -- the jobs that pay low wages and do not provide benefits, and which were most heavily impacted by lay-offs due to COVID. This data can help decisionmakers better understand the types of short and long-term recovery strategies are well-suited to the workforce landscape in each community.
