Ysa

Hi, I'm Ysa

(pronounced yiz-uh)

a bit about me...

I live in Oceanside, California and currently attend JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano. Growing up nearby San Diego, I never imagined I'd take a 70-mile round trip to school, and fall in love with the programs it offered along the way.

I grew up listening to my dad's guitar and waking up to his garage band practicing; my mom played piano around the house, and my sibling and I learned how to sing duets. From elementary church choir to high school theatre and choir, I fell in love with the art of performance, leading me to songwriting, theatre, choir, and more.

for the past few years...

In JSerra's Choir, I serve as both their Choir President and Assistant Music Director, organizing administration work such as concerts, logistics, tours, leading sectionals, and teaching in our Choir Director's absence.

At the JSerra Theatre Company, I act as both the Head Set Designer, where I build, design, and organize set construction, and the Head of Marketing and Publicity, for which I created the JSTC's official website, run their social media, design posters, flyers, and our programs. I've also served as a photographer for their numerous productions.

My theatre director, Michele Sheehy-Bowren, owns Creative Kid's Playhouse, a nonprofit children's theatre company, where I have also volunteered to build their sets, crew, and do photography.

outside the arts...

I've studied in JSerra Catholic High School's Medical Magnet all four years of high school. This program requires double the credit in science and mathematics than the standard requirements of JSerra Students. We also take courses under SimRated Labs, and I am certified to perform intubation, place leads on patients, and am in the progress of certification for suturing and IM injections (all under doctor supervision). During the last two years of the program, I've completed weekly hospital rotations at both Saddleback and Mission Hospital. I have observed and worked in departments such as the NICU, Operating Room, and Emergency Department, to name a few.
