My name is Matthew Segal, and I am the creator of Youth Economic Awareness. Throughout my freshman year in high school, I had no clue what to focus on. I considered myself well-rounded, playing several sports and being an active member of my boy scout troop. However, I went into the summer without any true passion.
However, as the summer passed, I obtained a passion for problem solving. I constantly wanted to learn about patterns, analysis, and solutions. As my passion grew, I researched economics and math to discover a potential field for my interests. This led to my initial discovery of how youth tend to find the world of mathematics and economics tricky to understand.
Upon realizing this pattern, I decided to found YEA in December of 2025 to highlight both the importance of financial literacy and mathematical comprehension among today's teens.
YEA is meant to be used as a free, easy-to-use resource for kids and families to use. It involves simple online workshops, as well as research in the field of math. YEA's ultimate goal is to partner with schools and community resources to make these concepts easy to understand.
