Statue de Mahé de Labourdonnais

Created by the Parisian sculptor Louis Rochet, the bronze statue representing Bertrand François Mahé de La Bourdonnais (governor of the islands of France (Mauritius) and Bourbon (La Réunion) was presented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1855 and transported to La Réunion in 1856. The statue was inaugurated in La Réunion on the 15th of August 1856.

The Joinville hotel

The Joinville hotel is a former hotel located in Le Barachois, Saint-Denis, today it houses the departments of the Reunion prefecture, whose headquarters are located in the neighboring prefecture hotel. Property of the departmental council of Reunion since 1978, it has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since August 29, 1989.

Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Délivrance

Notre-Dame-de-la-Délivrance church is a Catholic church located in the Petite Île district, on the left bank of the Saint-Denis River, downstream from the La Redoute district and in front of the city center. This Tuscan Gothic-style building was listed in the inventory of historic monuments on March 29, 1996. The church benefits from an interior decoration carried out at the beginning of the XXth century by a Spiritan, the father Fulbert, and renovated in 2015 and 2016. It had already benefited from an exterior restoration from 2009 to 2011.

Mausolée Anglais de la Redoute

The mausoleums of La Redoute are two obelisks from the island of Reunion, a French overseas department and region in the southwest of the Indian Ocean. Located in Saint-Denis in the district of La Redoute, they commemorate the fighting that took place around during the capture of the island by the British in 1810. They are fully registered in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments since April 3 2007.

Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle

The Reunion Island Natural History Museum is the only Reunion Island museum. Inaugurated on August 14, 1855, it is located in the heart of the city of Saint-Denis, in the public park of the Jardin de l'Est. It was fully classified as a Historic Monument on December 29, 1978.

560,000 pieces are now listed in the museum. Two thirds come from the islands of the western Indian Ocean.

L'Artothèque

Léon-Dierx Museum

Created at the initiative of Marius-Ary Leblond, the Léon-Dierx Museum was opened by the La Réunion General Council in 1912. Since its opening, it has stood out for the remarkable quality of its modern art collections. In 1947, its focus on the most innovative aspects of art in the 19th century and the early years of the 20th century was consolidated by the donation of a part of the collection amassed by the well-known art dealer Ambroise Vollard, a native of the island.

Centre municipal du Centre-Ville

A new exhibition opens its doors at the old town hall of Saint-Denis until June 18, 2021. With the same name as the famous battle of the pirate La Buse which took place 300 years earlier, the exhibition "Capture of the Virgin of the Cape "retraces the history of the forban of the Bourbon island through documents of times and reconstructions.

Temple Kalikambal is a Hindu temple located at the former entrance of Saint-Denis. This temple of great importance was built sometime in 1980 or earlier by a community of Indian merchants, being gradually enlarged and vividly decorated. Temple Kalikambal is a brightly colored example of Hindu culture and it is also one of the greatest landmarks of the city.
