Youth Encounter or YE is a youth program, which is the Virac model that was started in Virac Catanduanes in 1971 founded by Msgr. Jose Sorra, the Bishop-chairman of the Episcopal Commission on youth. The program was also introduced in the Philippines, which was conducted in various parishes, schools, and diocese all over the Philippines.
The Y.E-Virac model, in some way or another, has a prophetic nature. A lived experience of every young people who undergoes Y.E. It is no longer a module but a way of life. An experience of faith, devotion, and continued renewal in the life of every Filipino Catholic youth. The creation of the Youth Encounter - Virac Model has its anointing of the Holy Spirit. It is not only the creation of one brilliant mind but also the anointing of the Holy Spirit with its charismatic nature that has inspired many young people. Further, the Youth Encounter-Virac Model epitomizes and puts into life the Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit. Prior to the writing of Christus Vivit, the YE-Virac model already laid the foundation and the points exhorted of the said Apostolic document. Like any other dogma and Church teachings, they were experienced first, redefined, remodelled, and refined before putting them into letters. Christus Vivit reflects and concretizes the teachings and experience in every YE-Virac Model class.
