Once upon a time, in the far northern lands, there stood a great nation shackled under the iron rule of an evil dictator. His grip was fierce and his people lived in fear and silence. By the courage of the people the dictator got overthrown. That revolutionary wave caused the country to split in two, which resulted in the existence of Auralis.
To begin with, our country was born out of a dramatic break with the motherland, Land 8. For a long time, we were part of Land 8, a powerful kingdom led for several years by a dictator. This dictator led with determination, but his regime was eventually changed by a wave of revolution, mainly led by the women of the society. Since then, Land 8 has grown into a matriarchal society, where women hold the power politically and spiritually.
In fact, our people have always been quite different. While Land 8 has found its strength in order and control, we have been more spiritual and self-aware by nature. After the revolution, we chose to pursue our own path and separate from Land 8. We withdrew to the heart of the mountainous area that is now our home. Our society consists mainly of men, who make up a connected community that forms a strong bond around our shared spiritual beliefs.
In truth, our leader was a charismatic and likeable man who brought hope and unity. Though he passed away unexpectedly, he inspired many with his vision of peace and clarity. Unfortunately, his sudden death triggered a wave of conspiracy theories. Some people believe that his death wasn't an accident, but the outcome of a secret conspiracy by remaining powers from Land 8 who feared our growing influence. These conspiracy theories have become a fundamental part in our culture; they unite us, create suspicion towards the outside world and strengthens our internal cohesion.
At the same time, there is a significant gap between the young and the elderly in our society. The reason for this is that there is a significant brain drain. The elderly believe in conspiracy theories and in the deceased leader, while the younger generation questions these beliefs. As a result of this difference in thinking, they are more divided. This generational divide shapes much of our internal dynamics and worldview.
Culturally, we live in a very spiritual society, focused on inner growth, spirituality and discovering the underlying truths of the world. Although it's male-dominated, women are not excluded. The men perceive themselves as superior to women, believing that the role of a woman is simply to obey their husbands. With a traditional view of how they are supposed to behave. In this society, everyone participates in rituals, dances and meditations in order to achieve their ultimate goal: to go to heaven on doomsday.
Even so, we are physically and politically separated from Land 8, an indelible bond remains between the two countries. Land 8 sees Auralis as a threat, viewing us with suspicion. It reminds them of the patriarchal era they have overcome. A reminder of their past that they would rather forget. While to us they symbolise what we have left behind, they also double as a reflection in which we can judge our own personal identity. Country 8 is a journey about power and renewed hope, while we embody mystery, the spiritual quest and the process of handling losses and conspiracies.
The tensions between our two homelands have always remained. Rumours circulate about secret negotiations, spying and manipulation between our movement and the matriarchal regime of land 8. However, a small hope for harmony lingers: that perhaps our two worlds, despite all their differences, can one day find a peaceful coexistence.
The logo of Auralis
The flag of Auralis has three colours, each with their own meaning. Dark blue symbolises night, when most rituals take place. White represents purity and the quest to find inner truth. The gold-brown stripe stands for the earth and the power of the sun. The central eye with the moon in it symbolises inner consciousness. The moon represents the cycles of life and continual change. The rays above the eye symbolise the clarity and wisdom that come from living in harmony with the cycles of life and the constantly changing world.
Beyond the colours, the details of the flag have a deeper meaning. The dots at the bottom symbolise the stars and planets, which, according to the natives of Auralis, guide every soul. The inhabitants call this symbol “the eye of heaven”. It reminds them that true wisdom cannot be found outside themselves, but within. At night, during rituals, they often hang crystals around the flag. When the moonlight shines through, it dances on the eye and the rays. For them, it is a way of allowing the universe to participate in their ceremony.
