This policy explains how the Your Friend Aya mobile application handles information when children and their parents use it. It applies to the Android app com.yourfriendaya.app and the corresponding iOS app.
The app does not require a child to create an account or provide a name, email address, home address or phone number. It does not request precise location. Game progress, drawings and practice audio recordings are stored locally by these features; practice audio is not uploaded by the recording feature. Removing the app or clearing its data can remove locally stored progress.
The app is not a zero-data service. Technical identifiers can identify an installation or subscription even when they do not include a child's name. These identifiers and the other information below are processed by us and the services that operate app features.
Device and installation identifiers: Expo Updates receives a randomized installation/client identifier, operating-system and update information to deliver compatible app updates. Network services also receive technical request information, such as IP address and device/app information, when delivering online content. This processing supports app functionality, reliability and security.
Subscriptions and purchases: Google Play or Apple processes payment. RevenueCat receives subscription identifiers, transaction/purchase history and an app-user identifier to validate purchases, restore access, manage subscription status and provide subscription analytics. We do not receive your payment-card details. This processing is necessary for subscription features.
Optional notifications: When a parent enables notifications, an Expo push token, platform, language preference and consent status are stored and used to deliver app notifications through Expo and the platform notification service. Notifications can be disabled in the app or device settings. Disabling them stops notifications; it does not automatically erase previously stored records.
App interactions: Older app versions collected installation-linked activity events, such as feature use, for product analytics through Supabase. This custom analytics collection was removed from Android version code 32. Older installations may still use the earlier implementation. Removing this analytics feature does not remove the technical processing needed for updates, subscriptions, notifications or embedded videos.
Embedded videos: When you open a YouTube video in the app, the embedded YouTube player connects to Google/YouTube. It can process device or other identifiers, technical network information and playback interactions to provide video playback, measure performance and protect against misuse. Android embedded playback can also use a device-attestation token. This processing is governed by Google's privacy policy as well as the applicable YouTube terms.
We use RevenueCat for subscriptions; Expo for app updates and optional push notifications; Supabase for app content/configuration and notification records, and for analytics in older versions; and Cloudflare for content delivery. Apple and Google provide payment and platform services. These services receive the information needed for their respective functions.
Embedded YouTube playback involves transfers of identifiers and playback interactions to Google/YouTube. We disclose these separately from processing carried out solely on our behalf by service providers. We do not sell children's information.

Data sent by the app's online services is encrypted in transit. We use access controls to protect information held by us. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
Technical, notification and subscription records can be retained beyond an individual session. Retention depends on the purpose, including operating and restoring subscriptions, resolving support issues, security and applicable legal obligations. Turning off a feature or uninstalling the app does not necessarily delete records already held by the relevant service. Third-party providers also apply their own retention policies.
Parents can turn off notifications and microphone access in device settings, avoid opening online videos, and remove local app data. Subscription cancellation is managed through the store where the purchase was made; deleting the app or making a data-deletion request does not cancel a subscription.
For access, correction or deletion requests concerning information held by us, email contact@yourfriendaya.com with the subject "Your Friend Aya privacy request". Please identify the app and the type of request. We may need a subscription or installation reference to locate records that are not linked to a name. Do not send a child's name, recordings, payment-card details or other unnecessary personal information. Some records may need to be retained for legal obligations or to resolve transactions; we will explain applicable limitations. Requests concerning a platform account or data controlled independently by Google, Apple or another provider should also be directed to that provider.
If you believe a child has supplied personal contact information to us, contact us so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate.
