Every student deserves access to quality and fact based education. As a team, we will say no book bans while supporting all students in their quest to learn and grow. We believe every student, without exception, deserve to be safe, supported, and educated in Fridley Public Schools.
We have been engaging in legislative work and federal advocacy never before seen by Fridley Public Schools in order to ensure that Fridley’s voice is heard by decision makers. This includes working with lawmakers as they draft legislation that will impact our students, staff, and families as well as advocating for fair and full funding. We have testified in committee hearings, met with legislators, and will continue to ensure that Fridley’s needs are addressed at every level of government.
We understand that extra curricular activities aren’t “extra” - they are vital to the educational experience of each and every learner. We are committed to protecting Fridley’s world class Arts and Athletics programming despite state and federal cuts to public education. We know when kids participate in music, theater, sports, and clubs they have a better chance of doing well and graduating. Not to mention these activities build community, strengthen relationships, and help learners' brains grow and develop. With our track record of responsible spending and budget management, we fight to protect these important programs.
As your school board team, we have a proven track record of being smart with your tax dollars. We will continue to invest and spend responsibly in a way that keeps our students and community at the forefront. Fridley Public Schools has a consistent track record of fiscal responsibility and transparency. Each September, we set a preliminary levy amount that provides flexibility during the budgeting process. However, unless voters approve a referendum (held in November) the final levy certified in December is almost always lower than the preliminary amount. As a school board, we are deeply mindful of the financial impact on our community, and we work hard to balance the needs of our students with the responsibility we have to our taxpayers. Taxpayer burden is always front of mind in our decision making.
