Visit to INRASTES 2024
Our team kicked off 2024 by organising a visit to the Institute of Nuclear & Radiological Sciences & Technology, Energy & Safety of NCSR Demokritos. Our visit took place on Wednesday 21.02.2024 and consisted of the following:
a guided tour of the facility of the former research nuclear reactor of NCSR Demokritos,
a guided tour of the fusion labs of INRASTES, and
a series of presentations regarding the Eurofusion programme and the institute's participation in it.
The visit was organised by Maria Karlatira, Giorgos Tzimopoulos and Nikolas Papadopoulos. Our team is very grateful to Dr Ion Stamatelatos and Dr Konstantina Mergia for the organisation of our visit.
Visit to INN 2024
The Young Minds NTUA Section team continued its activities for 2024 by organizing a visit to the Institute of Nano-Science & Nanotechnology of NCSR Demokritos. Our visit took place on Wednesday 6.03.2024 and consisted of the following:
a guided tour of the laboratory for ceramic and composite materials
a guided tour of the plasma nanotechnology labs of INN
a presentation of the electron microscopy laboratory, and
a lecture on nanotechnology and nanomaterials.
The visit was organized by Epameinondas Tziortsios. Our team is very grateful to Dr Gogolidis , Dr Giannakopoulos, Dr Vekinis and Dr Albanis for the organisation of our visit.
Visit to the National Hellenic Research Foundation 2024
Our next activity for 2024 would be a visit to the National Hellenic Research Foundation and, more specifically, to the Foundation's Theoretical & Physical Chemistry Institute. Our visit took place on Friday 15.03.2024 and consisted of the following:
informative lectures, given by the researchers, on the activities and research opportunities at the Foundation's labs
a guided tour of the Institute's scientific laboratories
The visit was organized by Zeta Stavromitrou. Our team is very grateful to the Institute's scientific team for helping us realize this visit.
Visit to the National Observatory 2024
Further into the spring of 2024 our team organized a visit to the National Astronomical Observatory. Our visit took place on Friday 19.04.2024 and consisted of the following:
a guided tour of the laboratory for ceramnic and composite materials
a guided tour of the Observatory's telescopes
star observation, and
3 lectures concerning the research conducted at the Observatory:
i) Research of the Geodynamic Institute on Seismology and Applied Geophysics
ii) Research of the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications & Telescopy
iii) Informative lecture on the Institute for Environmental Studies & Sustainable Development.
The visit was organized by Maria Karlatira & Aggeliki Mastrantonaki. Our team is very grateful to Mr Emmanouil Saridakis for helping us realize this visit.
Visit to the Institute of Oceanography of HCMR
On Friday the 26.04.2024 our team paid a visit to the Institute of Oceanography HCMR (Hellenic Center for Marine Research) located at Anavyssos, Attika. Our visit consisted of the following:
a variety of lectures concerning inovative oceanographic and marine technology, as well as techniques that utilize nuclear physics and nuclear technology ideas in order to study the ocean
a guided tour of the Institute's scientific laboratories
a guided tour of the operational center for the Poseidon System , and
a guided tour of the deep sea vessel THETIS .
The visit was organized by Maria Karlatira and Thanos Koutsostathis. Our team is very grateful to Mr Dionysis Patiris for helping us realize this visit.
Athens Science Festival 2024
Members of our team participated in the Athens Science Festival on the 17.04.2024. In collaboration with members of the NKUA Young Minds Section, they presented children with a number of experiments, presentations, such as the ATLAS elementary particle detector presentation, and other scientific crafts.

Physics Day@NTUA 2024
And like always, we close of our academic year with a Physics Day, a premier event that showcases the fascinating world of physics. This one-day event featured talks by renowned physicists and experts in fields such as Cosmology, Experimental High Energy Physics, Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Materials Science and Nuclear Physics, alongside an interactive poster session and exhibitor booths. Participants were welcomed to engage with cutting-edge research, network with experts, and explore a variety of side events designed to inspire and inform attendees of all backgrounds.
