Summer Camp Leader Orientation

Portable Electronics, Cell Phone use and Smoking

YL Cell Phones & Electronics at Camp Policy

Please collect, label and box your campers' portable electronic music players & games, cell phones, etc. prior to your arrival at camp. This includes electronic cigarettes and vaporizers. At the welcome, the Head Leaders will collect them and store them in a safe location. Leaders will be permitted to keep their phones for use as a camera around camp. If you must use your phone to communicate, please use it in discrete location away from campers.

Inform parents that campers will not have their cell phones. In the event of an emergency, parents may call the camp office at (417) 779-5678. The after-hours emergency line is (417) 251-2604 to use only in the case of emergencies. Please let parents know what classifies as a true emergency when giving out this number.

The state of Missouri has a NO SMOKING policy for campers under the age of 18. There will be a designated area for campers 18 and older to smoke. Young Life does not allow the use of electronics cigarettes and vaporizers at camp and these should be turned in with electronics. We realize that some kids will still attempt to smoke; however, it will be our job as leaders to help supervise this in an appropriate way.

There will be a lockable locker in each dorm room. Please encourage at least one leader from each cabin to bring a lock for this locker. You will be able to store camper and leader valuables in this locker. If you forget your lock, please ask for one in the camp office when you get here.

MEDICATIONS

Please collect all prescription medication prior to your arrival; place in individual Ziploc bags and label with the camper's name and area number. All medications must be in their original prescription container with the label. These will be collected upon arrival and stored in the Infirmary to be dispensed by our medical team. We will collect all medications except birth control, epi-pens, and inhalers. Please click the link below for a letter to parents regarding medications.
