The Chop snare, sometimes referred to as the trap snare, is a snare drum sample that is widely used throughout modern music, particularly in rap, trap, and drill music. The sample is named after producer Young Chop, who is credited for popularizing it. Its origins are rooted in the production of the Chicago drill rap scene beginning around 2012, in which Young Chop was a major influence for. The sample itself is said to have been taken from the southern hip hop duo Field Mob's song "Baby Bend Over" from their 2006 album Light Poled and Pine Trees, however Young Chop has stated he first found the sample in an online drum kit.
