ForrestLab develops and publishes Youmu VR Player (Youmu), a local video player and reading application for Meta Quest. This policy explains the information Youmu processes on your device and the information you may choose to provide to ForrestLab.
Youmu does not require a separate Youmu account. Local playback and reading work without an internet connection. Your Meta account, headset operating system and store services are managed by Meta under its own policies.
Youmu processes the following information to provide its features:
Files and library information: videos, images, books, documents and subtitles in the files or libraries you authorize, together with names, locations or document identifiers, sizes, formats, metadata, thumbnails and cached indexes.
Playback and reading records: progress, recent items, reading bookmarks, ratings, folders and albums, plus your language, subtitle, audio, speed, screen and reading preferences.
Private-space information: encrypted content and library records, password-derived cryptographic material, encrypted keys and local failed-unlock information. Your private-space password is used locally; ForrestLab does not receive it or offer password recovery.
Interaction and device state: headset and controller poses, button and joystick input, focus and wearing state, and hand-tracking input where available. Eye-gaze input is processed only if supported by the device, enabled and authorized. This information supports spatial display, interaction and applicable reading features. Youmu does not build a persistent history of head, hand or eye movements.
Technical diagnostics: app and playback state, decoder information, errors and some controller input states may appear in local diagnostic information or system logs. Youmu does not automatically send these logs to ForrestLab.
Files, indexes and saved records remain on your headset or the storage source you select. Reading-language detection uses an on-device model. Youmu does not capture raw camera footage or record microphone audio.
Youmu uses this information to play and display content, organize your libraries, resume playback and reading, remember preferences, provide subtitles and accessibility controls, protect private content, cache data for faster access, and diagnose local errors. It uses authorized storage access to import, rename, move or delete files when you choose those operations.
ForrestLab does not upload your media or playback and reading history to a ForrestLab cloud service. Youmu has no advertising service, advertising tracking or automatic cloud analytics or crash-report upload operated by ForrestLab. We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Youmu requests file, video or folder access needed for the libraries you authorize. You can revoke access through your headset's permission settings. Revoking access can prevent opening or updating affected files; it does not itself remove files or previously saved app records. Tracking permissions support the applicable interaction features described above; availability depends on the headset and your settings.
The optional PC-source feature communicates with a helper on a computer you select or pair. It exchanges connection and pairing information, requested folder or file identifiers, byte ranges, library metadata, subtitles and selected media. A paired endpoint may be checked for availability while Youmu is in the foreground, including when no video is playing. These connections use USB forwarding or a network connection to that computer. The current Wi-Fi helper connection is not encrypted in transit; use it on a trusted local network. ForrestLab does not operate a cloud relay for this feature.
Private-space content and records are encrypted at rest and unlocked locally with your password. Content must be decrypted for viewing or reading. Temporary decrypted files and caches may exist during import or while private content is open, and some are retained during an unlocked session to speed up repeated access. Youmu cleans up temporary private content when the relevant content is fully closed, the private space is locked, or cleanup runs at a later start.
Private-space encryption protects the managed encrypted copies. Original files or copies retained elsewhere are outside that protection and may remain visible to the system or other apps. Moving an app-managed book into the private space removes its managed ordinary copy after a successful conversion; other source copies may remain. Video import can retain or remove the original according to your choice and any required system authorization.
Encryption does not guarantee protection on a compromised device, complete removal of temporary data from memory, or prevention of every form of recording or casting. File deletion is not guaranteed secure erasure. Keep your private-space password safe: forgotten passwords cannot be reset to recover encrypted content.
Saved library information, progress and preferences are retained locally to provide continued use until you change or remove them, clear app data or uninstall Youmu. Caches and temporary files may be replaced or cleaned up as the app operates. Removing history or an album does not necessarily delete the underlying media.
Use Youmu's library controls to remove records or delete managed content, and use the system file manager to remove remaining files you control. Read the confirmation for each operation: deleting a private copy does not automatically delete every original or external copy. Private-space deletion requires access to the unlocked space.
Clearing app data or uninstalling Youmu removes app-internal records and encryption keys. Files placed in shared storage, including ordinary files and encrypted payloads, may remain. Without the required keys and records, remaining private ciphertext cannot be reopened merely by reinstalling the app or remembering the password. Youmu disables Android's automatic backup of app data; you are responsible for copies or backups you make separately.
All users, regardless of location, may request deletion of personal information held by ForrestLab by emailing youmu.support@gmail.com with the subject Youmu data deletion. There is no fee. We may ask for information reasonably needed to identify the relevant correspondence and protect against unauthorized requests. If a legal obligation requires us to retain particular information, we will explain the reason and limit retention to what is required. ForrestLab cannot remotely inspect or erase data held only on your headset or computer, but can explain the local deletion steps.
If you contact ForrestLab, we receive the contact details, messages and any screenshots or diagnostic information you choose to send. We use them to answer your request and investigate the issue, and keep them only as needed for those purposes and applicable legal obligations. Email or support providers may process the correspondence to deliver that service. Avoid sending private media, your private-space password or unrelated personal information. You can use the same contact address to ask about, correct or request deletion of support information.
Meta independently operates the headset, store, account and platform services used by Youmu. Meta may process account, device, usage or diagnostic information according to its Supplemental Meta Platforms Technologies Privacy Policy. Those platform practices are separate from the local processing and ForrestLab support handling described here.
Youmu is intended for teens and adults and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to ForrestLab through support, contact us so we can review and remove it as appropriate.
We may update this policy when Youmu's features or information practices change. The updated policy and revision date will appear on this page.
