The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) serves as the principal entity within the United Nations system for promoting and protecting human rights. Established in 1993, its core mission is to ensure the universal realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms. Its multifaceted goals encompass monitoring human rights situations, providing technical assistance, and advocating for policies that uphold dignity, equality, and justice on a global scale.
In June 2015, OHCHR launched its office in Seoul. The office was established to keep an eye on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) compliance with human rights laws and to collaborate with relevant governments, civil society, and other stakeholders to protect Human Rights. Additionally, the OHCHR Seoul office strives to improve public awareness of the human rights situation in the DPRK.
Based at the field office in Seoul, our speaker’s primary focus is on ensuring accountability for potential crimes against humanity in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). His dedicated efforts extend beyond, as he holds a keen interest in advancing the human rights of LGBTI individuals and refugees.
