The acronym YOLO, the once bright word that stood for "You Only Live Once", has peacefully passed. Born in 2011, YOLO brought adventure and spontaneous moments to those around the world. YOLO was brought into this world as a call to bravery, turning once normal people into risk takers and dream-chasers.
Y.O.L.O inspired several impulsive tattoos, late-night dates, and ill-conceived life decisions. With the term being almost ludicrous by nature criticism followed YOLO throughout its life. Often attributed to reckless adolescent behavior, YOLO began to gain some hate towards its name. This contributed to YOLO's life fading, falling behind newer slang and acronyms. By the end of YOLO's life, newly born TBH and FOMO had started to gain traction, pushing YOLO to the back.
Although YOLO has passed, it will not be forgotten, as it left behind a legacy of living in the moment and holding onto life's opportunities. YOLO will live on in the hearts of those who seized the opportunities and chances that life handed them.
We honor YOLO through the thoughts and prayers that we give. We tap into our nostalgia to remember all of the times that we had with our acronym and all of the great memories that came with it.
If YOLO was alive right now, we know that it would tell us to laugh at the smaller things, embrace our life, and most importantly, to take that risk. It would tell us to jump into that water, talk to your crush, go run for class president. YOLO will forever be in our hearts.
