Sparkle Phonic!
Sparkle Phonic! (1st mini album) - Released on May 21, 2022
The mini album and single covers for ‘Sparkle Phonic’ was done by the wonderful Japanese artist Chibi Pastel. Follow and support her on Instagram here.
In June 2021, I sent her a direct message. She was a nice person to talk to. I was even glad to hear that it was an “honor” for her art to be used. I initially only planned on using one piece of art; but as the weeks flew by, I got moved by her art and ended up having a cover art for each song then a mini album art.
Her art connected with me because it felt like we were both trying to figure out our craft, to seek for mastery. “Sparkle Phonic!” for me is an endearing mini album that shows the beginning steps of my music journey. After we create something with our own hands, we look back at what we’ve done. Despite seeing the mistakes, we will realize sooner or later that it's something that we are able to smile back at.
This mini album has a lot more meaning because of Chibi chan. I view it as two artists, coming from different walks of life, complementing each other’s work. She even said that it “really matched the cuteness”. It was as if both of our eyes were veering towards each other, and lighting up. Whenever you think that you’re not really making anything good, remember that making 100 bad works is better than focusing on making 10 good works. By creating lots of works, you're naturally going to improve the quality of your craft without even really thinking about them. All of the skills you are practicing will improve as you repeat and repeat your work. Quantity > Quality. Quantity leads to Quality.
