Donors can set payments up to be a one-time payment, or recurring monthly or yearly.
You can encourage your donors to submit a donation form or setting up a recurring donation between the 1st and the 20th of a month.
CanadaHelps sometimes moves payments from the last few days of a month into the next month. An example of this timing - if the donor submits a payment on the 26th of March, the money could get moved to the next month’s deposit and be processed with April. Those will be sent to YL Income Processing in the next month, then they might not show up on your Giving reports until closer to the last week of that month, in this example, as late as May. We do try to have processing done so that amounts giving in one month show up by the next month, and not two months later, and having donations submitted between the 1st and 20th of a month will help with that.
The amounts will have credit card fees taken off the top by CanadaHelps.
The amounts are then transferred to US Dollars at the current rate of the day of transfer and sent to Young Life Income Processing in the States. There are transfer fees associated with the move from Canada to the US that come off the top of the monthly total of all mission units. The transfer fee is shared by all mission units who received Canadian donations in that month.
The YL Income Processing staff will then allot the transferred amounts to the mission units indicated and apply the standard Mission Services fees.
This is the path that Canadian donations take:
Donations are taken online through CanadaHelps. Credit Card and Securities are forms of payment that CanadaHelps can take. They do not take cheques.
CanadaHelps receipts the Canadian donor.
Those amounts collected by CanadaHelps are deposited to Ministry Affiliates.
Deposits are processed by YLMCMA once a month around the first or second week of the next month the payments were received.
Amounts are tallied per mission unit and transferred to USD.
Income Processing receives a list of all mission units indicated by donors and the US equivalent amount.
Income Processing then posts the amounts after fees to the Contributions accounts of the mission units indicated.
Ministry Affiliates is not able to see what Young Life Income Processing sees.
The donations you receive from Canadian donors through YLMC Ministry Affiliates will show up on the mission unit Giving reports under the YLMCMA account with the donor name in the Remarks field.
If you have questions about donations showing, or not showing, on your Giving reports, please contact Young Life Income Processing at the Service Center directly and they should be able to help you.
