Hello,
I'm Yueyuan, a graduate student at the University of Oregon and will be completing my Master’s degree in Language Teaching Studies in August, 2023. I am from Chengdu, Sichuan, a city in southwestern China, and it is also the hometown of giant pandas. This year's University Games is held here! Since 2015, I have been studying abroad in the United States. In my study and life, I often meet friends from all over the world, speaking various languages. I enjoy the diversity brought about by learning about different cultural backgrounds in communication, and at the same time, I have a growing interest in language and culture. Later, I chose the major of Journalism-Public Relations as my undergraduate degree, where I learned many skills, such as building relationships, establishing images, and these PR strategies. It made me realize that the charm and creativity of language are infinite. I got to know and finally decided to enter the LTS program because I have always been interested in teaching Chinese as a foreign/second language. I am grateful for what I have learned during the program in the past two years. It has allowed me to understand SLA and the language teaching field more systematically and comprehensively and apply the theories, teaching methods and skills I have learned to practical exercises.
I am steadfast in recognizing the communicative language approach and choose to integrate it into my future teaching. Spoken and written language are the bridges used to communicate between different cultures. If the purpose of our language learning is not to communicate, then such learning will obliterate the most fundamental soul of the language.
This website is to share my LTS Masters Capstone Project with you, which showcases some of the work I created during the program, such as lesson plans, curriculum design, and learning materials, following the six competence areas: language as a dynamic system, design, digitally mediated language learning (DMLL), assessment, teaching, and research. I also link to the complete PDF version of some materials below, where you can click the button to easily access them.
