Yiwei (Derek) Wang

I am an Assistant Professor at Zhejiang University’s International Business School and a researcher at its International Research Center for Data Science. I study how artificial intelligence and digital platforms change human behavior, service delivery, and operational performance.

My research brings field experiments and causal inference to questions about human–AI collaboration, AI-enabled service workflows, and retail and e-commerce platforms. I also use operational data analytics, machine learning, unstructured data analysis, and economic modeling.

I received my Ph.D. in Management from the University of California, Irvine, and my B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley.

Research Statement

1. AI, people, and service workflows

I examine how people interact with AI and how organizations design AI-enabled services and human-in-the-loop interventions.

2. Retail, platforms, and customer engagement

I study operational decisions in retail and e-commerce, including omnichannel retail, subscription operations management, and customer engagement.
