I am co-organizing the Washington Directed Reading Program with Andrew Aguilar, Daniel Rostamloo, and Maryam Emamjomeh Zadeh. This program pairs interested undergraduate students with mathematics graduate student mentors to embark on a quarter-long independent reading project. I review mentor and mentee applications, decide project pairings, draft funding proposals and announcements, and coordinate program orientations, weekly seminars, and mid-quarter and final presentations. I have also been a graduate mentor in the program multiple times, running projects on Combinatorics and Graph Theory, Triangulations, and Proofs from THE BOOK.
I was an instructor at the Husky Math Academy, a program based at the University of Washington that offers rigorous and challenging math classes for students in grades 7 - 9 who want to deepen their understanding of mathematics through problem solving. I facilitate weekly classroom discussions that cover topics beyond the standard school curriculum in algebra, geometry, number theory, combinatorics, and mathematical proof. I designed and implemented classroom activities on the Euler characteristic, Fibonacci numbers, and the 100 prisoners problem.
I was the Vice President of the Association for Women in Mathematics Student Chapter at University of Washington. I helped reboot the chapter after COVID and organized events such as a quarterly speaker series, biweekly socializing hours, and end-of-quarter social mixers. The AWM at UW supports underrepresented groups in mathematics, particularly women and gender minorities. All UW-affiliates interested in our mission are welcome to join and attend our events! I was a long-term volunteer for the Seattle Universal Math Museum project. I created 65+ weekly Math in Real Life posts for SUMM's Instagram account. The mathematical knowledge in the posts was at the middle school level to inspire a younger and broader audience. I was featured in the Volunteer Spotlight in this SUMM Newsletter.
