Improvisational Theater to Open up New Ideas for Cross-cultural communication

What is Playback Theater?

"Playback Theatre" is translated into yiren yigushi juchang or briefly yi juchang in Chinese when this kind of theater was first introduced into China. It is an improvisational theater in which the interaction between the audience and the actors are much valued. Actors use physical, musical or dramatic forms to enact the stories, experiences, moments and feelings that an audience freely shares. In this process, the audiences witness to establishing an open dialogue space, so as to promote the understanding and communication between different cultural groups or communities.

What is cross-cultural communication?

Everyone who studies and works in a multicultural environment has experienced culture shock at one time or another. What causes culture shock? How do you handle it? In the context of globalization, how shall we develop the competence of intercultural communication? It would be interesting for us to investigate these questions together.

Who can participate in this workshop?

If you are curious about the theatrical forms of playback, such as “Fluid sculptures”, “Pairs”, “Chorus”, “Free form”, “Snap shot” and "Collage", if you want to communicate with friends of diverse cultural, linguistic, ethnic or religious backgrounds and share your life stories, and if you want to personally participate in the performances on the spot, then don't hesitate to join us! This event can definitely provide you with a new perspective and a unique experience.

We always believe that everyone's story has its own value and is worthy of being heard and respected. Therefore, we aim to understand the cultural diversity, to find ways to communicate effectively and to build a mutual understanding as well as the consensus.
