What aspects of this class contributed most to your learning?
I felt that Yifan knew the course content in an in-depth manner which aided him very well in answering student questions. In addition to this, he was very well-spoken and an expert in breaking down the content to make it digestible for those who are learning it. As I am sure you know, these skills are invaluable in the educational environment.
Yifan's course organization was exceptional. It was challenging material that he structured well by providing the basics and then building in complexity. Yifan also truly cared about the quality of his lectures, the coursework, assignments and ultimately student learning. This was a very very valuable class for me and has given me new confidence in databases and SQL that will be foundational for my future learning. High praise for Yifan!
Yifan taught in a very clear manner and presented information in very manageable chunks. One thing that really was helpful in my learning was how we wrote SQL queries and answered questions as class. The group project allowed for a great deal of creativity and inventiveness. I feel like the course was very organized and Yifan clearly prepared well for teaching the course. Every class activity was very purposeful and I would be very excited to take a class from him again.
The way Yifan broke down complex concepts into fundamental ones helped me strengthen the foundation of SQL. Also, I found every minute of Yifan's lectures very engaging and interesting.
I think Yi-fan's hands-on approach was very helpful in learning Database structures and SQL. There were a lot of class exercises and take-home exercises that were helpful in understanding the material.
How well did the instructor utilize teaching strategies that encourage the learning and growth of students from all backgrounds and life experiences? Please provide specific examples or feedback.
I think it was really helpful that Yi-fan shared a lot of his personal work/study experiences to help us understand the importance of certain things that we learned in class. By assuming that we were all students coming in without background knowledge of databases or SQL, Yi-fan really catered the course to beginners and taught the fundamentals of the course.
Yifan did a wonderful job making sure that we all understood the topics taught. Despite us all coming from different backgrounds of database and SQL knowledge, he went at a pace that was easy to follow and to understand. He also used many examples during class to breakdown difficult topics, as well as encouraging us to code along with him. I would give Yifan high marks. I really appreciated his support throughout this class.
Yifan encouraged individuals to ask several questions during this instruction and was very welcoming to many of the ideas. He was very humble and thorough when answering questions and if he didn't know something he followed up with more information.
He was very inclusive of everyone and encouraged students to share their experience and background. I really appreciated that type of learning environment.
Great, YiFan respected everyone in and out of classes. He is willing to accept he can make mistake.
As an international student, I found Yifan's techniques very inclusive.
