The Islamic University of Kalimantan (UNISKA) Muhammad Arsyad Al Banjari holds the distinction of being the oldest and largest private university in South Kalimantan. Founded by the UNISKA Foundation, the university's establishment was formalized through the Notary Deed of Bachtiar Number 6, dated July 7, 1981. Shortly after, on July 18, 1981, the Islamic University of Kalimantan Muhammad Arsyad Al Banjari was officially inaugurated, solidifying its role as a cornerstone of higher education in the region.

Today, UNISKA MAB boasts an impressive academic infrastructure with ten faculties, 21 undergraduate study programs, and five graduate programs (PASCASARJANA or Master's programs). Over the decades, the university has made significant contributions to the intellectual and professional landscape, producing thousands of graduates who have gone on to excel in various fields.

As of now, UNISKA has a vibrant academic community, comprising approximately 19,502 active students, supported by hundreds of dedicated staff and academic personnel. The university operates across four campuses, strategically located to serve its growing student body and academic endeavors. These include:

• The Central Campus on Jl. Adhyaksa No. 2 in Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan.

• The Branch Campus in Banjarbaru City.

• The Tatah Mosque Campus.

• The new campus in Handil Bakti.

Notably, the Central Campus is situated directly across from the Kalimantan Region XI Kopertis office, a location that underscores UNISKA's pivotal role as a barometer for the progress of private universities in the Kalimantan region.
