Yen-Lin Chen received the B.S. and Ph.D. degree in electrical and control engineering from National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2000 and 2006, respectively. From Feb. 2007 to Jul. 2009, he was an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Asia University, Taichung, Taiwan. From Aug. 2009 to Jan. 2012, he was an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Taipei University of Technology, Taipei, Taiwan, and from Feb. 2012 to Jul. 2015, and from Aug. 2015-Jul. 2021, he was an Associate Professor and full Professor in the same institute, respectively; and since Aug. 2021, he is now a Distinguished Professor in the same institute. Dr. Chen is a Fellow of the IET, a Senior Member of the IEEE, and a member of ACM, IAPR, and IEICE. In 2012, he earned the best annual paper award sponsored by the Intelligent Transportation Society of Taiwan. In 2003, he received Dragon Golden Paper Award sponsored by the Acer Foundation and the Silver Award of Technology Innovation Competition sponsored by the AdvanTech. He also earned the Silver Invention Award from Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, and received best annual ITS paper awards two times in 2011 and 2012. His research interests include artificial intelligence, intelligent image analytics, embedded systems, pattern recognition, intelligent vehicles, and intelligent transportation system. His research results have been published on over 150 journal and conference papers.

IoT cloud and intelligent image analytics technology for smart factories: Dr. Chen host the industry-academia cooperation studies and technology tranfer with TECO Co., Ltd., ITTS Co. Ltd., and Chroma Co. Ltd., to develop a series intelligent smart image analysis and cloud-based Internet of Things technologies for improving the efficiency of smart factories, including applications for automated defect detection and Human-machine interactive personnel assistance system, and integration of IoT cloud platform technology to achieve the goal of efficient and intelligent manufacturing and validation (4 cases of technology transfer with TECO Co., Ltd., ITTS Co. Ltd., and Chroma Co. Ltd., a total of 3.41 million NT dolloars in technology transfer funds, received three grants from Ministry of Science and Technology Industry-University Program Subsidy and Cooperation Funds with totaled 3.32 million NT dollars.
Key technology modules and value-added application technologies for Time-of-Flight (ToF) cameras: Dr. Chen cooperated with Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. to develop a series of 3D depth camera image quality improvement, calibration techniques, software and hardware integration modules, and jointly develop real-time object recognition and scene positioning value-added application systems for mobile robots and home appliance consumer products. This series of cooperation included 2 technology transfer cases, received a total of 1 million NT dollars in technology transfer funds, and received the grant from Ministry of Science and Technology Industry-University Program grants and cooperation funds totaling 1.91 million NT dollars.
All-weather and surrounding obstacle detection and safety assessment technology for driver assistance and autonomous vehicles: Dr. Chen hosted the cooperation with Haitec Automobile Electric Co., Ltd. conduct industry-academia cooperation to develop a new generation of vehicle-wide obstacle sensing technology. Based on the rapid object detection and classification technology and the fusion technology of LIDAR multi-sensor fusion, they have developed a series of new generation intelligent automatic Real-time full-week obstacle detection and identification technology required by the driving system (105-108 three-year industry-academia cooperation project, industry-academia cooperation funds totaling 2.85 million NT dollars).
Cloud monitoring technology for smart appliances and commercial air conditioners: Dr. Chen cooperated with TECO Electric Co., Ltd. co-developed the smart appliance IoT cloud monitoring technology to provide users with intelligent terminal devices to automatically monitor and manage cloud appliances at home or commercial air-conditioning systems in the various business place, and provide the best comfort regulation and energy-saving effects, to greatly improve the comfort and convenience of the user's living. Besides, Dr. Chen also developed a series of embedded mobile remote monitoring interface technology and machine selection software technology for energy-saving operation of large commercial air-conditioning systems. These techniques received three technology transfer cases with 1.62 million NT dollars.
Develop embedded multi-core ARM and DSP platform based techniques for driving safety assistance. The host teamed up with HAITEC Co., Ltd, Jorjin Co., Ltd., and CSSP Technology Co., Ltd. to develop a series of day and night surrounding pedestrian detection and obstacle detection techniques, and implemented a new generation of real-time and fast optimized image recognition technology modules for TI's and NVidia embedded multi-core processor platform to provide automotive electronics a series of low cost and computationally efficient solutions for active driver assistance in the market. These technical modules were transferred to HAITEC Co., Ltd, Jorjin Co., Ltd., and CSSP Technology Co., Ltd., and received 4,370,000 technology transfer and cooperation funds. The results have won the "Outstanding Achievement of Industry-Academic Achievements" from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
