Number patterns
Number patterns
Number patterns are also known as sequences, and each number in a sequence is called a term.
Strategies we can use to find patterns including looking for:
A common difference
2, 6, 10 has each term (number) going up in 4's.
Example
A common ratio
3, 6, 12 is being multiplied by two each time.
Example
An increasing or decreasing difference
15, 10, 6, 3 is when the difference decreases by 1 each term.
Interlinked patterns
2, 8, 4, 7, 6, 6 see the odd numbered terms (numbers) increase by 2 and the even numbered terms decrease by 1.
A special pattern - like prime numbers or the fibonacci sequence.
