Unit Overview
Australia’s involvement in World War I has been regarded by many as a defining event in our history. In this unit, students will look at the nature and causes of World War I and II and the reasons why Australian men enlisted. The unit focuses strongly on Australia’s involvement including the places where they fought and the impact both wars had on Australian society. Through a focus of sources and other evidence, students will look at the life and perspectives of ANZAC soldiers who fought in the Gallipoli campaign in World War I and the Battle of Kokoda in World War II. Students will also discuss the significance of the wars to Australia and how it is commemorated today.
Duration: 14 weeks
